Our Spring Choral Concert is tomorrow, Friday June 2nd at 7:00pm  in the Livermore High School Theater. This concert will feature the combined LHS/GHS Concert Choir (which has grown to 50 students strong), and the LHS Show Choir. The suggested donation is $5 to help support the program, but no tickets or donations are required to attend.

Concert Choir will be performing a varied repertoire that spans over 400 years of choral music history. We'll be performing works from the Baroque and Romantic eras, songs in Latin, English, German and Italian, and contemporary a cappella pop repertoire.

Show Choir will present a set of four contemporary a cappella arrangements centered on the theme "standing up and making a difference," which the class voted on earlier this year. Included in our set will be a performance of LHS senior Johanna Zukowski's own arrangement of "Elastic Heart" by Sia. Johanna will also be conducting the performance on the concert.

Come join us to celebrate the end of the school year with singing! We hope to see you there.

Erika Yang is a junior at Granada High School whose innovation and excellence as a young scientist have earned her, and Livermore, international recognition.  After being the Grand Award Winner at this year’s Alameda County Science and Engineering Fair, and then earning 4th place in the Senior Division at the California State Science Fair 2017, Erika went on to compete at the 2017 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (Intel ISEF), which took place last week in Los Angeles.

Intel ISEF has been honoring young researchers since 1950. Created and run by Society for Science & the Public, it is the world’s largest international pre-college science competition. Now sponsored by Intel, ISEF this year brought together about 1700 students from 78 countries, regions and territories.

Erika’s project - Developing a Novel Flexible MoS2 Biosensor to Detect Lower-Concentrated Area of Biological Molecules at the Femtomolar Level - competing in the Material Science Category, was one of the winners of the Special Award given by Air Force Research Laboratory on behalf of the United States Air Force.

Erika’s work will contribute to medical research, as she has developed a methodology that has the potential to detect cancer at low concentrations at the earliest onset of the disease, which therefore has the capacity to remove the cancer and increase survival rates.

The Board of Trustees and our Superintendent, Dr. Kelly Bowers join me in congratulating Erika. We are very proud of Erika for her outstanding accomplishment and we are proud to be able to honor her today, on Livermorium Day.

We have until April 14th to complete our online Titlewish fundraiser, and we’re 45% to meeting our goal of $5,000. Our fundraiser has an exciting new development: A Granada High School parent has generously offered to match donations, up to $3,000! This has the potential to completely transform our library collection, but we need your help.

If you haven’t had a chance to donate to the fundraiser, you have until Friday, April 14th to contribute. Let’s not lose those matching funds! Visit http://www.titlewish.com/1090738 to donate.

100% of the money we raise will go directly to purchasing new library books for our school library. We will use this money to purchase mostly non-fiction books, as our non-fiction collection is in desperate need of an update.

We’d like to offer a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has already donated! You’re awesome!

Sincerely,

Sherry McGowan

Starting TODAY and ending on April 14th we’re having an online Titlewish fundraiser. 100% of the money we raise will go directly to purchasing new materials for our school library!

We’re asking you to participate and help us raise $5,000. We’re going to use this money to purchase non-fiction books for our school library. Though our fiction collection is in better shape, our non-fiction collection is outdated and could use some fresh, useful books. We will focus our purchases on books related to topics we know students are researching and on popular areas of our collection that need updating. The average price of a library book is $13.00, and we would be so grateful if you would consider donating enough money to purchase a book or two.

To help us meet our goal, please visit http://www.titlewish.com/1090738

and click the Donate button.

Thank you for helping us provide Granada High School students with the best education possible! Our students deserve relevant, exciting books in their school library.

The 49ers and Symetra are proud to recognize the passion and dedication of the Bay Area’s educators. Each NFL season, sixteen Bay Area teachers are named Symetra Heroes in the Classroom in honor of their commitment to student achievement. Parents, students (former or current) and all school district staff are eligible to submit a nomination. Hero selection is based on the teacher’s ability to balance core curriculum with students’ individual needs, invest in their students’ long-term success, and build trust among students, parents and the community.

As part of the Symetra Heroes in the Classroom award, each teacher receives the following:

  • A $1,000 donation for their school
  • “Heroes” award certificate and gift bag
  • Two tickets to a 49ers regular season home game
  • Customized 49ers jersey and pre-game experience

Since 2011, The San Francisco 49ers and Symetra have partnered on the “Symetra Heroes in the Classroom” teacher recognition program, which celebrates outstanding educators in the Bay Area.

Submit your nomination (or two!) for your Symetra Heroes in the Classroom today!

These events are open to all ages and abilities. All race proceeds support the Livermore-Granada Boosters scholarship program.

Every participant will receive a commemorative T-shirt, medal, and post-race refreshments. The awards ceremony honors the top finishers in each race, school participation, and a tribute to our veterans. All schools in Livermore may compete for the top participation award. The school with the most participants receives a $250 cash donation. Dear Livermore Community:

As we begin the 2016 - 2017 academic year, I continue to be honored to serve as your Superintendent of Schools.  There is a magic about the first day of school. It’s the start of a new year, new friendships, new opportunities, new challenges, and new growth. I am eager to renew our commitment to “inform, inspire, include and innovate” throughout our work as educators and supporters of students in the Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District.

This fall we welcome over 12,900 students to our schools - many of them new to our district. We also welcome 100 new employees. This summer, LVJUSD was honored, for the third time, as a Top Workplace, awarded by the Bay Area News Group for being one of the top 100 places to work in 2016. All of us who work in the Livermore schools are excited this fall to launch a new school year, and we look forward to graduating the Class of 2017 with the skills needed to contribute and thrive in our changing world.

It is truly a pleasure to begin this year knowing that our community supports the work we do in our schools. With the passage of Measure J, Livermore voters pledged to upgrade school facilities so that each and every classroom will be equipped with the technology and resources to prepare our students for the challenges of the 21st century. Watch for more information on facilities improvements made possible by Measure J.

I am privileged to work with you as partners on behalf of our students and the Livermore community we call home.

Warm regards,

Kelly Bowers, Ed.D.
Superintendent of Schools
